Vietnamese cuisine is known for its healthy and delicate flavors. Not as spicy and sweet as its neighbourhoods Thai foods, Vietnamese cooks respect the natural taste of good ingredients. Vegetable and fish are usually the main ingredients, rice and noodle soup are the centerpiece of everyday's meals. With simple ingredients that one can easily find in the field, the sea and from farm to table, the dish are just feel good on your stomach ( thanks to its healthiness of course :-)) )
When you grow up, the best is always a home-made meal like what your grandmom fed you. And nothing beats a healthy meal with a combination of home-grown vegetables from the garden, wide-caught fish and shrimps from the river next door, and jasmine rice just ripely harvested from the field.
A typical Vietnamese meal includes a bowl of soup ( vegetables, fish, meat ), a savory dish ( meat/fish ), a vegetable dish ( boiled/stir-fried), steamed rice and fish sauce ( of course ). In Hanoi, folks prefer to eat at home with family gathering, that somehow reflects a more traditional side of the city as compared to Saigon where people love to eat out and discover new restaurants and street food pops-up.
